before we get started, let's meet your clients in switzerland

(originally posted 6.21.11)

Is pretty much what my boss said on my first week of work in London. I thought moving to London was going to be a big "first." Week two at work and I'm heading to Geneva, Switzerland.

Coming in over Lake Geneva

First time in Continental Europe. First time to Switzerland. First chance to search for that Swiss chocolate. mmm...

One of the largest fountains in the world, The Jet d'Eau sits at the point where Lake Geneva empties into the Rhรดne. It was a bit windy, luckily not in our direction.

Both Chris and I have flown out of the UK for work -- I've been to Geneva, Switzerland twice now and it's beautiful and full of old gold, watches and snooty rich people. But who is to say Chicago isn't full of that. Amazing food and beautiful landscape though! Chris has been on a day trip to Madrid and lead one of his first global meetings for a client and ate some great spanish tapas with his new 'boss'....one of which was fried bait fish, little fish you'd imagine in your fish tank! Tried a British version yesterday, and I can't even describe them right now. I'm sure I'll grow to love them.

arrived in londontown

As most of you know by now, Chris and I have been planning a move to London with our current jobs. Finally, some of the craziness is starting to die down, because we've actually arrived! The anticipation is over and here we are (well, here I am. Chris is somewhere over the Atlantic as I write)!

For those of you who were curious if I arrived safely, I certainly did and am starting to get settled in nicely. Our temporary accommodation is in a very nice area near the Monument Tube stop...which means a long commute to work for me. Over an hour. The place itself is very modern, spacious, clean and not full of all Ikea furniture (like most places here)!
our temporary alley way

Although not much sleep's been had yet, I did already have one hugely successful day filled with interesting pub visits and surprisingly good food with our good friends Dave and Melissa Sedjo. They couldn't have been better support/entertainment for me today. They even sent me home on the Tube all by myself (in a complete fog after 2 hours of sleep and a few pints). Somehow, I made it back to our little flat.

Chris is on a flight tonight that will get him into Heathrow around 8 am tomorrow and I cannot wait to see him.

the city. full of men in suits moving fast. pretty at dusk though.

Thank you for all the well wishes and advice we've received these last few months. We couldn't have made this move without your support. Please please please keep sending us any advice or contacts of people you may know in the area. We need friends!
